If you receive a large volume of responses to your ad, the first step is to reduce the list down to the appropriate candidates for the role.

Have a checklist of a minimum criteria and rate each written application against this. Send a response to candidates advising the outcome of their application.

Conduct a phone interview with set questions for each candidate to reduce the list down further to face to face interview candidates. Advise applicants if they have progressed to the next stage or not.

Conduct face to face interviews to select your candidate.

Key questions on qualifications and past history are important but also try and feel out whether the applicants personality is a good fit for your company. Ask the candidate for real life experiences that you can then cross reference with their referees.
